My name is Ajay Karnawat. I’m 45 years old and live in Sikar, Rajasthan. For the last 20 years, I’ve worked as a primary school teacher in a private school, teaching young children.
I make INR 35,000 a month as a teacher. That might sound manageable to some, but when you have a family of five and three growing kids, two in their first year at the University of Rajasthan and one in Class 11, this amount starts to feel small. Every month, between hostel fees, tuition, food, and other expenses, I’d find myself staring at an empty bank account and a head full of worry.
I was desperate for something, anything, that could help me supplement my income. Not something that needed a huge investment, or took me away from my teaching. Just something that could add to our monthly income and let me sleep peacefully at night.
A Banner in Jaipur Changed My Life
One day, I went to Jaipur to meet my children. I saw a big banner by InsuranceDekho. It said:

I took a photo of the banner. That night, I searched on Google. I read about POSP agents. I learned that a POSP agent sells insurance. They help people buy health insurance, motor insurance, and more.

My Training and Exam
InsuranceDekho gave me 5 days of free training. I attended the training in the evening after school. I learned what insurance is, why people need it, and how to talk to customers.
After training, I gave the IRDAI exam. I went to an exam center in Sikar. The exam was very simple. The questions came from the training only. I passed in the first attempt with 65% marks. Within 2 weeks, I got my insurance agent license.

The First Few Months Were Hard
Now I was an agent. But getting customers was not easy. In small cities like Sikar, many people don’t know about insurance. I spoke to teachers, parents, neighbors. But no one bought a policy for 3 months.
I started to feel sad. I thought, "Maybe this is not for me."
My First Sale – A Day I Will Never Forget
Then, on October 12, 2022, I sold my first policy. It was a health insurance plan. I felt very happy. It was also my wife’s birthday, which we celebrated that night.
My first customer told his cousin. He also bought a policy. Slowly, more people came to me.
In fact one of my customers had to use his health insurance policy within 2 years of buying it for his gallbladder surgery. It cost INR 55,000. But his insurance paid the full bill. I helped him with the claim process. The InsuranceDekho team also helped me. After this, more people started trusting me.
People Started Calling Me "Insurance Wale Masterji"
I started selling motor insurance too. I gave examples of how real people were helped by insurance.
Now, in my area, many people come to me for insurance help. Even people who are not my customers ask me questions. I help them too.
Today, I earn between INR 50,000 to INR 70,000 per month from insurance. Some months I earn more than my teacher salary.
My Children Are Ready for the Future
Now, my two elder children are in their final year of college. One got a job offer from a company in Gurgaon. He will become an app developer.
I feel proud. I feel happy. I am able to support my children’s dreams because of this work.
